SOPA has finally been shelved. Congress viewed the bill before winter break and two thirds of the congressmen were in favor of the bill. However congress went into recess during winter break. During this time millions upon millions of people sent emails and letters to their congressmen protesting the bill. When congress saw this massive protest they decided to shelve the bill at least for now...

SOPA must be stopped. SOPA is the acronym for Stop Online Piracy Act. This act was intended to stop online piracy. While this is a noble goal the bill is written with incredibly broad language granting the government the power to censor the internet and take down sights that infringe on copyrights instead of that sight simply removing the article that violated the copyright. Since this bill can't stop Americans from pirating things from sights based out of other countries SOPA would simply censor search engines so only sights based out of the United States would appear. This bill needs to be stopped before the internet is changed so much we can't recognize it.
